Half A Mind To Do It

A Bench Jeweler’s Guide to
Thought Patterns

Have you ever heard some one say, “I have half a mind to do something.”  Do you know what?  They are right!  Over the last few decades science has proven that the left side of our brains controls the right side of our bodies, and the right side of our brains control the left side.  Most all of our movements are controlled by one side of our brain (half of our mind) or the other.

Recently studies have shown that it goes even further than just body movement.  The left side of our brains also control all thing related to logic and order, while the right side of our brains control creativity and innovation.

Hold your index finger out at arms length and line it up with a horizontal line such as the edge of a door or corner of the room (don’t use the edge of your monitor, you are sitting too close to it).  Then without moving your finger close one eye, and look at your finger with the other eye.  Then repeat with the opposite eye.  Do you see your finger move?  While looking at your finger with one eye it will line up with the original line, and with the other it will be to the right or left of the line.  The eye that lines your finger up with the line is your dominate eye.  We all use both eyes to see with, but we each have a dominate eye.image 2image 1

In the same manner, we each have a dominate side of the brain.  We all use both sides of the brain, but one side is more dominate than the other.  People who are more Right-Brained tend to be more creative, spontaneous, and innovative.  They make good artist and JEWELERS.  People who are more Left-Brain dominate tend to be more orderly and structured.  They make good accountants.  This of course proves what I’ve thought all along is actually true; People who are extremely neat and organized are not in their Right Minds!
